Software Engineering Immersive Lead Instructor,
Reuben is a teacher, craftsman, and linguaphile who loves making things and has always been driven to explore how pieces of complex systems work together. He has a passion for understanding how people's minds work, how different people find and create meaning in their worlds, and why people build and express the things they do. He sees tools—in particular, language—as fundamental expressions of the human experience. Combine all of this to get someone who loves to help students explore, learn, understand, and apply programming and its principles.
He received his BS in Computer Science from UNC-Chapel Hill, and worked as a web developer at an agency, a consultant for a start-up, and on various freelance projects. He has been tracking the evolution of the web since he started tinkering with HTML and CSS in Netscape in the late 90s.
When he's not teaching or coding, Reuben is growing food in gardens and urban farms, playing music (usually piano), learning languages (like French or Georgian), studying cultural theory and cultural studies, or seeking nature and wilderness.
In recognition of his exemplary service in the classroom, Reuben has been selected as a member of General Assembly's Distinguished Faculty program. Reuben serves as a member of GA's Product Advisory Board for our full-stack development courses.
