About This Workshop

In this one day bootcamp, we will move beyond the basics of spreadsheet creation. We will dive into data manipulation and advanced functions to summarize and analyze data with multiple attributes. We will also introduce using slicers with Pivot Tables, creating interactive reports, and using advanced formulas. Interactive in-class exercises will be utilized to facilitate understanding.

Agenda

  • Review of Intermediate Functions (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, COUNTIF)
  • Relative and Absolute Cell References within Formulas
  • Date and Time Functions
  • Logical Functions (IF/NESTED IF statements)
  • Advanced Functions (SUMIFS, COUNTIFS)
  • Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts (including Slicers)
  • Named Ranges

Participants will learn how to effectively streamline and analyze data using some of the more advanced features of Excel including:

Preparation

  • This bootcamp is designed for participants with familiarity of basic features/functions in Excel (i.e. navigation, layout, basic formulas like SUM/COUNT, etc).
  • Please install Excel version 2010 or later.

About the Instructor

Hart Research Associates

Nate Jacobs is a junior analyst at Hart Research Associates, a polling firm in DC, where he spends his days trying to make sense of polling data for political campaigns, corporations, nonprofits, foundations, and colleges and universities. In particular, his work has focused on climate change, education, and public health, where he has undertaken research on areas as varied as the Clean Power Plan in swing states and donor cultivation and retention for numerous nonprofits. Nate is a 2013 graduate of Wesleyan University, and was a student in the winter 2016 Data Analytics course. In his spare time he enjoys biking, reading, and sampling the best breakfast sandwiches around DC.
