    About this event

What is Blockchain as a Data Structure

Blockchain is a new-ish distributed ledger technology that is being experimented with and adapted throughout the world. Folks who work with data will run into Blockchain sometime in our careers, likely sooner rather than later. We will begin with an overview of Blockchain, then discuss how to identify, read, and analyze data stored in a Blockchain. There will be Q&A at the end.

No prior knowledge/experience is required. Blockchain is a simple concept and a complex technology; we will be staying on the simple side of things for this presentation. For a quick intro to Blockchain, I recommend skimming/reading the original Bitcoin whitepaper (https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf, 8 pages) and at least the first half of the Ethereum whitepaper (https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/White-Paper) - you don't have to understand these papers, but first exposure to the concepts will help. Finally, this presentation is focused on data and won't be covering mining, finance, investing, or ICOs.

Dinner will be provided by Datalere Consulting. Thank you, Datalere!
