About this workshop

A lot of us have had ideas for great apps bouncing around in our brains, but lack the skills necessary to bring our ideas to life. This class is for anyone looking to put a toe in the water of Android development. It will start at square one, take you through setting up your laptop with the tools for writing apps, and familiarize you with the IDE by walking you through the creation of your first app. It's a great way to get a taste of what Android development is all about.

Takeaways

  • Install the correct versions of Android Studio and Java
  • Familiarize yourself with the most commonly used components of Android Studio
  • Create a basic app to make sure that the laptop is configured correctly

Prereqs & Preparation

  • A laptop computer meeting the system requirements for Android Studio listed here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
  • Programming experience is helpful but not required. There are other General Assembly classes which can teach you programming for Android.
