Born and raised in Melbourne, Matt Lane began his hospitality career at an early age through his family’s involvement in inner-city and rural Victorian hotels. His love affair with Mexican cuisine first began whilst living with a Mexican chef in Spain, and when a position came up to manage La Esquina in New York City, Matt embraced the opportunity.

During this time, he travelled frequently to Mexico, learning more and more about the techniques and flavour. After nine months, Matt returned to Melbourne in 2009 to open Melbourne’s favourite Mexican restaurant, Mamasita, and in September 2016 opened Smith Street tostaderia, Hotel Jesus.
