About this workshop

Learning the command line today allows you to efficiently navigate and search your computer, as well as giving you access to a variety of tools and programs for software development. Ever remember only half a file name and want to find it? Or just a snippet of text, and want to see if a file in your project has it? Or move a bunch of files without dragging them 1-by-1 with your cursor? The command line can do all that, and lots more!

We will be using the Bash Unix Shell, which comes pre-installed on all Macintosh computers.

Takeaways

  • How to find files containing a snippet of text, files of just one type, or finding a file when you only remember part of its' name.
  • How to string multiple commands together for powerful searches. How to customize your Bash profile for easier reading of terminal output. Handy PDF cheat sheet of commonly used commands.

Prereqs & Preparation

Must bring a Macintosh computer.
