About This Class

Get creative with Sketch.

Step into the world of visual design with General Assembly. During our introductory workshop, explore the tools and techniques you can use to bring websites, marketing materials, and more to life, and see how designers make their mark on the digital world.

  • Touch on essential design principles including composition, color theory, and typography
  • Get an introduction to Sketch, a go-to tool for digital designers
  • Execute a creative brief using your new skills

Chart your own career path. Pick up where this workshop leaves off. Enhance your professional skill set in our part-time Visual Design course. Or, learn more about the design world in our User Experience Design courses, on campus or online.

About the Instructor

Creative Director,
Exploratorium

Lara McCormick is a nationally recognized designer and educator, and received her MFA in Design from the School of Visual Arts as well as a post-graduate degree in Typography from Cooper Union. Lara is the author of ‘Playing with Type: 50 Graphic Experiments for Exploring Typographic Design Principles’ published by Rockport Press, and her work has been featured in notable design publications including HOW magazine, PRINT, Graphic Design USA, and Design Observer. She is a gifted speaker and gives presentations and workshops on design and typography across North America for organizations including AIGA, AdobeMAX and TEDx. She is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Sappi ‘Ideas that Matter’ award, a judge for Communication Arts Typography Annual in 2017, and selected educator by Print magazine in their Spring 2017 issue. She is committed to design education, social activism and investigating change. Currently, Lara is the Creative Director at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, CA.
