About this class

The rise in mobiles and tablets has not only changed the way we consume and interact with content, but also the way we design and what we base our design approach on.

This class covers how user expectations as well as behaviour and consumption patterns have shifted—and what that means for designing products that will be used on multiple devices. We'll take a close look at some real life examples and we'll walk through a step by step approach for tackling a responsive design project and an app project. Coming out of this class, you'll be equipped with the essential principles and tools to tackle the multiple device jungle.

Takeaways

Coming out of this class you will have:

  • the common challenges faced when designing for multiple devices and how to address them
  • content strategy and hierarchy across devices

  • how to test both responsive sites and apps
  • have an understanding of the different ways people physically hold and interact with their devices
  • know why the mobile context matters and what you need to consider
  • have a checklist and framework to use as the starting point for working through a responsive site or app project from an information architectect (IA) and user experience (UX) point of view
