Employees and managers typically dread giving or receiving feedback. Discussing performance, introducing suggestions for improvement, and talking about goals for the future can be unnerving or fear provoking. The truth can hurt, but it doesn’t have to.
When people have a clear understanding of what is expected of them, what they are doing well, and how they can continue to improve their performance, they become more engaged and tend to give more when they believe their efforts are being appreciated and directly contributing to company success.
When done in the right way and with the right intentions, companies can interpret feedback to identify new initiatives, changes in direction, and/or the need for increased effort. Succeed by getting direct, honest and crucial feedback and build a culture in the workplace where feedback is not only expected but desired.
