About This Workshop

If you could step inside a drawing, what would you draw? What story would you tell?

Everyone's talking about virtual reality these days, but it can be intimating to get into. This introductory workshop is designed to explain the basic concepts and make this technology more accessible for beginners. We'll create a VR experience using a little HTML and a lot of imagination. You'll be guided in connecting theories with techniques, as you become familiar with existing frameworks. By the end of workshop, you'll have transferred your hand drawings into code and onto your phone for an immersive VR view of your sketches.

Takeaways

  • Learn sketching methods and their integration into VR
  • Understand available frameworks and their potential
  • Differentiate between 360 Technology, AR/VR, and gaming
  • Test drive a mobile virtual reality viewer to experience your creation!

Prereqs & Preparation

Coding experience is not required, but you'll write a few lines of HTML.

What to bring to class: All students must bring a laptop and smartphone! We'll provide a cardboard VR headset that you can take home after class.
