About this workshop series

Join us for two days of an intensive hands-on bootcamp to learn how to use Google Earth Engine for geospatial analysis at scale! In this bootcamp, you will learn how satellite data can be used to understand some of the most fundamental environmental, economic and social processes on Earth. The bootcamp will introduce you to fundamental concepts in geospatial data science and give you unique tools for satellite image analysis and interpretation that are key for any informed decision making. You will learn how to use the Google Earth Engine JavaScript code editor and write codes to easily automate geospatial workflows, such as image visualization and interpretation, time-series analysis, supervised and unsupervised image classification, understanding spatial and temporal patterns, working with vector and raster data, performing spatial statistical analysis and creating sharable maps and applications.

Takeaways

  • Be able to use satellite data to map fundamental phenomenon on Earth

  • Understand how Earth observation data can be used to measure economic development, social processes and changes in the environmental (e.g. deforestation)

  • Gain basic understanding about satellite imagery and how to access free satellite data

  • Learn fundamentals of satellite imagery analysis and interpretation

  • Learn how Google Earth Engine can be used for geospatial analysis at scale with concrete applications

  • Learn concepts of ML applications with geospatial data

Prereqs & Preparation

Google Earth Engine in a cloud-based platform for planetary scale analysis of Earth. In this bootcamp you will learn how this platform can be used for geospatial analysis at scale using the platform`s JavaScript API. No prior coding knowledge is required. However, you will need to sign up to Google Earth Engine several days before the workshop using this form. You will receive an acceptance letter within one week.
