About This Workshop Series

GA is teaming up with Women Talk Design for this incredible two-day bootcamp. Women Talk Design is on a mission to see more diverse speakers on stage. In this workshop, we’ll provide new speakers with the framework and confidence to begin crafting their first talk. Learn where to start, understand why storytelling is important and how to use it in your talk, and begin drafting an outline of a short talk. You'll have a chance to work on your talk in a safe, supportive environment and get feedback on your ideas along the way. Learn how to present with confidence and get practice delivering your talk.

What past participants have said:

"This workshop has gotten me exponentially closer to a goal I have had for nearly a decade. I can't believe I am walking away with a solid concept, outline, headshot and new community of support. Thanks"

"I didn't think writing a compelling talk in 2 days would be possible, yet WTD helped me not only do that, but also helped me build the confidence to present it."

"A great immersive experience. This session was an excellent lab for me to workshop by speaking ideas and speaking skills"

Schedule

Jul 13
Saturday, 13 July 10 am – 4 pm CDT Craft Your Talk

On day 1, we start with an introduction to speaking at conferences and public events. We'll then go over how to craft a compelling talk using storytelling principles. Understand how to design your talk starting with your audience, and leave with an outline of a 5-minute talk.

Jul 14
Sunday, 14 July 10 am – 4 pm CDT Deliver with Confidence

Learn how to feel confident about getting on stage. You'll learn both how to prepare yourself before going on stage, and what to do during your talk. You'll have lots of time to practice and get feedback. We'll end the day with final presentations. Your talk will be recorded so you have a video example, and you'll receive feedback from instructors and peers.

Takeaways

  • A framework for crafting a great talk
  • A draft of a 5-minute talk and resources on how to expand it depending on length of talk
  • A video of a 5-minute speaking example
  • Resources for continued reading and exploration
  • Note: Crafting slides will not be covered in this workshop.

Preparation

Pre-reading will be emailed to you prior to the workshop. Attendees should complete reading and come to class with a talk topic. Your homework between sessions will be to continue to work on your talk to be ready to present on Day 2.
