“Contrary to common belief, the most effective way to build a brand is not by spending millions in advertising, but by finding a clever way to keep your name in the press.” -Barbara Corcoran, "Shark Tales: How I turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business."
In this workshop, you will learn the ins and outs of what makes news, how to identify and contact the right reporters/bloggers, and how to structure your pitch to increase the chance of getting your story or product covered by blogs, business journals, newspapers and TV shows. I'll teach you some of the same techniques I learned the first day I started publicizing small and mid-size technology companies back in 1997.
Own a small business and the desire to grow it
Publicist For Hire
Robert A. Lynch is a professional storyteller. He publicizes small and mid-size businesses, their products and people, and prepares spokespeople for media interviews by helping them develop key messages and teaching them how to effectively deliver them.
Publicity is his bread and butter. He’s done it for 17 years, having worked for large global public relations agencies, including Porter Novelli, Burson-Marsteller and Ketchum, and for small creative boutiques like EBS PR and Dome Communications. He also spent 18 months handling all of the business to business PR for TransUnion’s business to business divisions. He’s freelanced for the past six years at publicistforhire.com. He still uses the same techniques he learned the first day on the job: tell the right story to the right reporter at the right time. Lather, rinse, repeat.
He also teaches effective presentation and communication skills through applied acting and improvisation techniques. He has coached new sales team members, emerging leaders and senior executives at Fortune 500 companies like Walgreens, KPMG and Devon Energy, among others, how to deliver their presentations clearly, confidently and concisely. He also taught collaboration, ideation and presentation skills to DePaul and Loyola University public relations students.
He is an actor and improviser. He has performed in plays and with improv teams on stage and has appeared in commercials, web series’ and television pilots. He has completed the improv training programs at Second City, iO and The Annoyance in Chicago and Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles. He also continues to study with on set acting coach and USC faculty member, Rob Adler.
