About this event series

Want to learn what leaders in healthcare technology have to say about the future of healthcare, the big problems that need to be solved, and how to create something truly innovative? Join us for this healthcare innovation Hackathon at General Assembly, to see big ideas come to life!

Teams of designers, budding designers and entrepreneurial thinkers will spend a day designing ideas and experiences. Ideas matter. But even more inspiring than an idea alone is seeing it come to life to actually help people. med_hack is a two day event where you get to build innovative things with like-minded people. Whether you study or work in healthcare, build software or gadgets for a living, or love the business side of things - we want you. Even if you have no prior hackathon experience. Because healthcare needs you.

Grow your own knowledge. Hear it straight from the best. Learn what leaders in healthcare technology have to say about the big problems that need to be solved, and how to create something truly innovative.

You will combine skills in user research, ideation and rapid prototyping, and mentors from the healthcare industry will be on hand at General Assembly Melbourne community to help your ideas flourish, and become real, tangible solutions for the future.

What can I expect on the weekend?

  1. Form teams, get briefed on the problem statement, and brainstorm digital solutions and ideas
  2. We're inviting coders, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, designers, lawyers, chronic disease patients, students and anything in between
  3. Pick up tips, tricks and advice from world-class mentors over the weekend
  4. Put your design and ideation skills into practice and design prototypes from ideas to solve a challenge
  5. present a two-minute pitch/demonstration with one minute of questions to our judging panel for your chance to win prizes

The challenge

The theme is Chronic Diseases - anything generally accepted in the medical profession as a “chronic disease” is fair game! We're also not limiting participants on the aspects of chronic disease that they can tackle; whether it is the patient experience, patient safety, etc.

Who should attend?

Anyone! We have made it our mission to keep our event as open as possible. Whether you're the top neurosurgeon in Melbourne (who might make an appearance!) or a high school student at the beginnings of your journey, we have a spot for you at med_hack.
