Running a successful software development team can be tough, especially if you're understaffed. Outsourcing some of the work (domestically or abroad) can be a great way to expand a team's bandwidth, bring in specialized skills, and parallelize development. But it also brings its own challenges - how do you find the right talent, get them up to speed quickly, manage them successfully, and ensure quality?
This class will walk through that process, and also look at some tricks of the trade that students can take and apply to their own teams. Students will have a chance to decide which topics they want the class to focus on, but some subjects that we'll hope to touch are: - Talent search platforms like oDesk - Interviewing - Market prices and negotiation - Rapid onboarding - Remote collaboration with technical assets and creative assets - Delivering and quality assurance - Building relationships for future projects
