About this workshop

With the growth in popularity of full-stack JavaScript applications, the MEAN stack has become a prominent choice for start-ups and enterprise corporations alike. Through this workshop you will come to understand the fundamentals of MongoDB, AngularJS, Express and Node as we spend the day building a Single-Page Application (SPA) complete with our very own API.

Angular

  • Fundamentals
  • Create a SPA through Angular routing
  • Consume third-party APIs as well as your own
  • When and how to build your own services and custom directives

Node

  • Understand how node works
  • How to manage your dependencies and scripts with NPM

MongoDB

  • Understand the basics of this NoSQL, non-relational database
  • Benefits of a non-relational database vs a relational database
  • App implementation with Mongoose

Express

  • Use Express to help start up a Node server
  • Server-side routing

Prereqs & Preparation

  • Intermediate. Participants are assumed to have experience with writing basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript. No MongoDB, Express, Angular, or Node experience is required for this workshop.

  • You should be comfortable looking at HTML & JavaScript source code and making changes to existing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Required Materials/software: Laptop (MacBook/Linux recommended), text editor (i.e. Sublime Text). For the sake of time, MongoDB and Node must be installed prior to this workshop.
