Bring your creative ideas to life with Adobe Illustrator, the industry-standard vector graphics software, used by designers and illustrators who want to create digital graphics, logos, illustrations, and original typography. This workshop is designed to get you up and running with Adobe Illustrator in just three days. The focus will be on step-by-step instruction leading students through the most important tools and concepts in Illustrator.

The Basics + Page Layout

  • Opening or starting a new file
  • Understanding the Adobe Illustrator interface
  • Using the view options
  • Learning how to set up a full one-page layout with headline and body text from start to finish.


  • Learning how to illustrate with Adobe Illustrator
  • Learn how to use the pen tool, pencil tool and brushes to bring their ideas to life
  • Special techniques and tips for creating more professional quality illustrations will be demonstrated.

Logo Design

  • Learn how to create professional quality logos from sketch to final art in class using the text, shape, pen, alignment, pathfinder, transform and other tools.
  • Tips for good design and strong typography will be demonstrated.


  • Learn the basics: how to open a file, image trace, add text, use layers and brushes.
  • Cover vector line art illustration using the pen tool.


This is an introductory course designed for first time and beginning Illustrator users. No prior experience with Illustrator is required for this class. All students must be able to bring a laptop to each class (Mac preferred). You will need to have Adobe Illustrator version CS4 or higher already downloaded on this laptop for the start of class.
