About This Class

Conventional note taking is fast fading. Line by line, the note taking style we were once taught in school is evaporating, and in its place an exciting alternative is emerging. Sketchnoting, or visual note taking, combines words with pictures in everyday notes to boost learning, memory and understanding.

It’s practical, it’s impactful, and it’s fun. This workshop will show you the basics, from visual techniques to hands-on exercises. Ditch the lined paper, and join the movement on better visual thinking.

Takeaways

  • Understand how to use basic elements to sketch objects, figures and almost anything
  • Learn how to create graphic recordings in meetings, events and at work
  • Learn how to listen for the big ideas and communicate them visually
  • Practice drawing exercises and improve your visual vocabulary

Prereqs & Preparation

No drawing skills required, just an open and willing attitude to learning, sharing your findings and diving into new concepts and sketching techniques. That's it!

You’ll be provided with markers and paper for sketching.

Justin Cheong is a sketchnoter and information designer who is passionate about helping people bring ideas to life through visual thinking. He is experienced in applying visual techniques to everything from concept generation to information architecture and user research.

Having spent his school years doodling in class, Justin has adapted his sketching skills to his everyday trade. He uses sketching to graphically capture ideas in books, podcasts, workshops and conferences, to communicate design ideas, and to facilitate ideation in collaborative settings. He also craves complexity, and is skilled at organising big messes of information.

Justin is currently a freelance consultant for companies seeking to increase their design and visual thinking capability. He has consulted for clients across financial services, education, health tech, digital imaging, telecoms, not-for-profit and startup sectors. Justin holds an Honours degree in Commerce, majoring in Business Strategy and Economic Management, and is an alumni of General Assembly’s UX Design Immersive program.
