"Fix My App" Screening From the creator of Expose UX, comes a new web show: Fix My App. Watch users attempt to use an app for the first time during a usability test. It's easy to know how to use a product after using it a few times, but using it for the first time is when the issues are revealed. After all the problems are found, a team of user experience experts collaborate to solve the major problems. This special premiere episode is presented in partnership with Ladies that UX and features a female entrepreneur and panel of female UX experts.

About the Panelists

Jess Bell Photo

Jessica Bell is a self taught Front End developer at Deloitte Digital. She has a degree in International Relations from San Francisco Sate University and came to DC to get into diplomacy and internationalization of education… which naturally led to programming! After being assigned a website redesign project at her las job as Digital Media Coordinator at a German Foundation, she started self learning HTML, CSS, and WordPress. Fast forward through multiple online tutorials, MOOC’s, and FEWD herself, Jess landed a job as a junior dev. She is an active part of the leadership of DC FemTech, DC Tech Meetup, participates in the JavaScript Guild and Women Who Code Front End Hack Night, and in her free time is building a little web game with Angular. Outside of code, Jess loves to cook awesome dinner creations, impress her friends with her German language, make websites full of cats, and travel the world in search of the yummiest thing she can find. She tweets a lot about #noobDev experience - follow her @sirjessthebrave !

Molly Moran Photo

Research & Design Center, U.S. Department of State

Molly is a design strategist who currently leads the Executive Secretariat’s Research & Design Center at the State Department. She designs efficient systems that make sense to human beings, and moves institutions from print-based to digital systems. Molly has designed sites and apps that are used by the Department's top leaders, including the Secretary of State. Before that, Molly spent a year working on websites for PBS.

Molly has a masters in Communication, Culture, and Technology from Georgetown University. She and her husband live with their dog and cat in a 300-year-old house in southern Maryland. She can do a headstand on a horse and perform tricks on the flying trapeze.

Natalie Buda Smith has over 20 years of experience developing strategies and customer experiences for companies around the world, working from DC, India, Czech Republic and Kazakhstan. She is now engaged in user experience at the Library of Congress serving millions daily in their pursuit of understanding the U.S. government through www.congress.gov or researching our rich cultural archives at www.loc.gov.

She has been a presenter throughout the years at ACM’s SIGGRAPH, the Usability Professionals Association, USID India, EuroIA and Adaptive Path’s User Experience Week. She also has over 8 years of teaching experience as a full-time assistant professor, and most recently as a graduate school instructor in Georgetown University’s Culture, Communication and Technology department.

Rica Rosario is a creative strategist, human-centered designer and social do-gooder aiming to deliver impactful business solutions through data-driven design, storytelling and technology. She has 11 years of experience in design and strategy, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design as well as an MBA. She currently works as a Senior Product Manager at Deloitte Digital DC, and serves as the President of AIGA DC, the local chapter of the professional association for design. Like any true Californian (by way of the Philippines), Rica is a big fan of tacos, beaches, big dogs, wine and snowboarding.

Nicole is a design leader with over sixteen years experience in designing strategies and customer experiences for a variety of industries: financial services, non-profit and advocacy organizations, e-commerce, higher-ed, and telecommunications. She is an IA at heart - always striving to make order out of chaos.

She has led teams and partnered with clients in different digital agencies She has worked directly with brands such as Mary Kay, Time Warner Cable, AARP, Drexel University, and HRSA. In 2015, she “went inside” and joined the Branded Card Design team at Capital One. Through all this work, Nicole strives to partner with business teams to better understand human needs to create compelling, relevant CX.

When not thinking about design, Nicole tries to keep up with her toddler son, binges on detective stories and shows, and roots for Cleveland-bases sports teams.
