About This Workshop

Enabling analysts to broaden their SQL skills to retrieve and manipulate data from multiple sources into timely, cohesive, informative analysis.

Registered students will be notified 24 hours in advance of this program with information on how to log in to the Zoom Meeting Room and other tools you’ll need for the session. Registration for this class will close 2 hours prior to the session start in order to allow all students ample opportunity to have the technology enabled.

Takeaways

We will be going over the following:

  • JOIN and UNION with Aliasing
  • Primary and Foreign Keys
  • Aggregation and Functions
  • Complex JOINs with multiple tables
  • NULL values and related SQL functions
  • GROUP BY combined with HAVING
  • CASE and COALESCE

Preparation

Students who join this course must have an understanding of SQL fundamentals including the use of the following command line functions:

  • SELECT queries that include FROM, WHERE, ORDER BY, LIMIT.
  • Familiarity with using GROUP BY and HAVING in SELECT queries.
  • General understanding of accessing remote/cloud databases.

This is an Intermediate level course. If you are a beginner, we recommend that you start with the SQL Bootcamp Remote (Online)

  • Students will be asked to download pgAdmin and connect to AWS (directions will be sent via email)
  • Each individual course participant must have purchased a ticket
  • A laptop, Mac or Windows, with a minimum of 8G (16G preferred) available memory and 200 MB available to download applications; Preload pgAdmin and PostgreSQL per instruction PDF. Instructions attached.
  • This course will occur completely online using Zoom and Slack
  • You will need access to a laptop or computer with a working webcam and microphone as well as a strong internet connection
  • Pre-work and course set up information will be emailed to all students signed up around 24 hours before (and again an hour before) your course launches

About the Instructor

Nigel was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Awarded a Presidential Scholarship to study economics at Hampton University. He then returned to NYC to complete his Bachelors in Economics at New York University. He worked in credit derivative markets at Goldman Sachs and Old Lane before founding The Street Academy for Financial Literacy, a non-profit serving over 1000 NYC youth annually. Today, Nigel is the Co-Founder and COO at BALLSTAR, a social database for global basketball statistics.
