About This Class

Talented graphic designers can produce some pretty amazing work, but the need for graphics normally extends beyond annual reports, marketing packets, and company websites. The problem is that the price tag can be a little steep for those ephemeral, one-off projects that still really benefit from graphics, things like proposals, project reports, and posts on social media.

This workshop is ideal for people who work for small businesses or nonprofits, who have tight budgets, and who don’t have full-time graphic designers on staff. You’ll learn how to produce basic graphics that can help support your text. And, with practice, you’ll learn how to produce them fast enough that you can keep up with all the other work you still need to get done.

Takeaways

  • Understand the basics of creating simple, flat graphics

  • Learn about the fundamental principles of visual design including typography, color, and composition

  • Gain some hands-on experience building out one simple graphic

  • Increase your ability to communicate effectively with graphic designers

Prereqs & Preparation

Students should have either PowerPoint or Google Slides, and Photoshop or GIMP.

About the Instructor

Benjamin Myers Photo

Operations Specialist,
PAE

Ben did not study Graphic Design at the Pratt Institute or the Rhode Island School of Design. He does work for two small businesses where there’s a lot of value in being able to wear as many hats as possible. As a Communications Specialist for AMEX International, he regularly works on graphics for proposals and reports. As a Social Media Specialist with GCG Event Partners, he uses his basic graphics skills to help increase the reach of various posts. In his free time, he watches an inordinate number of movies, obsesses over mixtapes, and gets lost in the black hole of Tumblr.
