About This Class

APIs (Application Programming Interface) allow your application to access services and leverage the existing technologies of companies. APIs are how you connect your application to Facebook, Google, Pinterest, Instagram, Tesla, and thousands of other companies. By truly understanding how APIs work, you open the door to a whole new world of possibilities: the world becomes your playground. In this workshop, we’ll discuss in depth how APIs work, and you’ll also have the opportunity to build your own API interface.

Takeaways

  • Have a clear understanding on how APIs work, and why they are increasingly prevalent
  • Know how the HTTP protocol works
  • Understand the RESTful architecture when designing APIs
  • Format data using JSON
  • Use a SPA (single page application) to consume your own API

Prereqs & Preparation

This workshop is designed for anyone with experience in HTML and JavaScript, who is eager to learn how to build and support their own APIs.

What to bring to class: All students must bring their own laptop.
