About This Event

Join Hexagon UX NYC and General Assembly for HexHacks 2019, a design hackathon focused on bringing our minds together to create solutions focused on uplifting our community of women and non-binary individuals! Team up, pick a challenge, and design a solution over the course of a day while learning from experts in the field through skill building workshops.

Design Challenges:

  • Unconscious Bias: Create unique, technology-driven solutions that can help anyone learn about how to identify, understand and improve the influence of unconscious bias in the workplace and in our social spheres.
  • Access to Opportunities: Design solutions to help people of different backgrounds get access to equal opportunities in our community and society.
  • Accessibility: Conceptualize solutions that can address the needs of specially-abled people with different cognitive and physical abilities.

About Our Partners

Google

Google’s mission is to organize the world‘s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Since our founding in 1998, Google has grown by leaps and bounds. From offering search in a single language we now offer dozens of products and services—including various forms of advertising and web applications for all kinds of tasks—in scores of languages.

Zeplin

Zeplin is a connected space for product teams. It helps teams handoff designs and style guides with accurate specs, assets, code snippets—automatically.

Plant

Plant is a simple and powerful version control tool that is seamlessly integrated with Sketch to accelerate digital product design. Plant works to organize your projects and ensures that none of your creative process is lost by keeping track of all versions and metadata including date, time, and the user that pushed a specific version.

Sketch

Sketch is the definitive tool for digital design. It’s used primarily by screen designers who create websites, icons, and user interfaces for desktop and mobile devices. For beginners and industry professionals alike, Sketch’s powerful tools, gentle learning curve and intuitive UI allow designers to focus on what they do best; design.

General Assembly

General Assembly is a pioneer in education and career transformation, specializing in today’s most in-demand skills. The leading source for training, staffing, and career transitions, we foster a flourishing community of professionals pursuing careers they love.

Hexagon UX NYC

Hexagon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the HQ based in San Francisco, with chapters all over the world. Hexagon first launched in 2013 as a small, local Bay Area meet up called XX+UX. We rebranded in 2017 and are now a community of over 4,500 womxn and non-binary individuals worldwide. Hexagon chapters host community events and run mentorship programs. We’ve held events in London, Sydney, Paris, Toronto, Vancouver, Bangalore, and more. Check out our chapters.

Beyond our current programming, we aim to provide resources for those entering the field and encourage individuals with more experience to pursue senior roles. We hope that Hexagon helps drive the conversation around diversity and inclusion in UX. Implicit bias in these areas is perhaps the greatest inhibitor of womxn’s growth — it affects how we hire, how we interact with co-workers, and how we recognize and promote “talent”. We know that diversity drives creativity, but change needs to come from within companies themselves and how they think about their own success.

InVision

DESIGN BETTER. FASTER. TOGETHER. InVision is the world's leading prototyping, collaboration & workflow platform. We help companies of all sizes unlock the power of design-driven product development. That's why teams at Zendesk, Salesforce, Google, Asana, and many more fire up InVision every day. InVision gives teams the freedom to design, review, and user test products—all without a single line of code. With intuitive tools for prototyping, task management, and version control, it's your entire design process, all in one place.
