About This Workshop

New customer acquisition is one of the important challenges for a digital business. Google AdWords can be an excellent tool once you understand how to run a cost effective campaign with a strong ROI. These classes will help you understand AdWords and how to use it as a positive tool for growth for your business.

Please bring a laptop.

Introduction to Google AdWords

We'll start things off by discussing topics like whether AdWords is the right tool for you, how you can construct a cost-effective campaign, and how to measure success. The section will guide you through how Google AdWords works and the preparation required for running a successful campaign. We will also cover basic campaign structure, keyword selection, and ad text creation.

After we've got the basics covered, we'll delve into the details of how to optimise your campaign and look at important things like quality score, reporting, and keyword match. We’ll also talk about the Google Display Network and spend some time on important campaign management tools, eventually building up to some case studies. This session will equip students with an understanding of how to analyse their campaign’s performance and make changes accordingly.

Intermediate Google AdWords - Search and Display

Your marketing campaign can only do so much. Hooking the interested niche is the easy part, but ultimately people are only human and persuading them to turn back to your product is harder than it looks.

However a gentle reminder can work wonders—and knowledge of AdWords remarketing can mean the difference between a sell-out and an under-appreciated product. This is where Google's Display Network comes into play.

During this session students will learn how to make the most of the Display Network's various features and will walk away with the tools to set up a targeted campaign for their own customer, as well as attract new business through some of the most effective messaging available.

Advanced AdWords

You have a great product…but now how do you get people using it? Not everyone experiences the overnight success of turntable.fm, Foursquare, or Facebook. Using the right tools can be the difference between a massive success campaign and one that fizzles out.

This workshop will provide an in-depth overview of the golden rules of user acquisition using AdWords. Students will learn the basics of Google's Conversion & Analytics module and walk away with inside knowledge on the small details that can make a real difference to your site and ensure you secure that all-important sign up.

Tim is a Digital Marketing and Communications Consultant with over 10 years' experience running marketing campaigns and digital projects for clients in a number of industries, including education, IT security, banking, construction, retail, health care and professional services.

Tim has broad digital experience working across a wide range of functional areas including search, email, social, web, content, strategy, analytics and conversion optimisation.

While living in Cambodia and Malawi, Tim co-founded tools4dev, a free source of templates, reviews and how-to guides for international development and aid workers that focuses on practical advice.

Tim loves meeting new people and learning new things, leading him to be an organiser for TEDx events while living in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Lilongwe (Malawi). He was also an organiser for Nerd Night in Phnom Penh, a fortnightly event for sharing nerdy passions in the Pecha Kucha format (20 slides, 20 seconds each slide).

Retuning to Sydney, Tim joined the organiser team for The Digital Marketing Connection, a free monthly Meetup group that hosts practical talks on digital marketing.
