With over four million users and more than ten million repositories, it has become the place to be if you want to collaborate with other designers and developers on open-source projects. But just what exactly is so special about GitHub, and how can you get involved? And what’s the difference between GitHub and Git, the technology that powers the site? From the fundamentals of version control to publishing your first project, you’ll learn everything you need to know about GitHub and how it works in this class.

Prereqs & Preparation

Having used the command line before will make things easier, but is not required.

Students should bring a laptop and sign up for a GitHub account before they arrive. A text editor should also be installed on your computer, if you haven’t used one before, install SublimeText. Students will also need to install Git on their laptops, which can be done using the following links:
