About This Workshop

Are you a creative or entrepreneur wishing you could speak tech with your web development team? Maybe you wish you could code a bit yourself, but don’t know where to start? Look no further!

In this free two-hour livestream, we’ll cover the basics of what programming is, how it’s used, and some basic terminology to help non-programmers, or beginning programmers, more effectively navigate this space. All in real time, taught by an industry professional.

Come learn the basics and gain the skills you need to understand the fundamentals of programming!

What will the livestream learning experience be like?

  • Ask questions and build your online network by interacting with fellow classmates and an expert instructor —all in real time via live chatbox and Q&A.
  • Learn new skills in the comfort of your own home, or on the go! All participants will be automatically muted with no video.


  • Understand the principles of what programming and web development are.
  • Review various programming languages and how they can be applied to projects.
  • Learn the difference between a web site and web app.
  • Identify the individual stages of web development and how they relate to each other.
  • Understand the difference between front-end and back-end web development.
  • Become proficient in the most common programming concepts and vocabulary.

About the Instructor

Python & Software Engineering Instructor, General Assembly

Tyler Lane is a freelancer living in Austin. After graduating from Eckerd College with a degree in Computer Science they moved to Austin and have worked professionally as a software engineer for over five years.

Tyler has taught the Software Engineering Immersive course at General Assembly and currently teaches the part-time Python course. They also teach improv with Merlin Works. They are currently a producer for the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival and play guitar in an emo cover band called Grackle! at the Disco.

Tyler is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns!
