In this workshop, we will move beyond the basics of spreadsheet creation. Topics will include data manipulation and advanced functions to summarize and analyze data having multiple attributes. We will also introduce using slicers with PivotTables, creating interactive charts and dashboards, and using advanced formulas. In-class exercises will be utilized to facilitate understanding. The workshop is designed for participants with familiarity of basic features/ functions in Excel (i.e. navigation, layout, basic formulas like SUM/COUNT, etc). Beginner level participants should attend GA’s Excel at Excel: Getting Down the Basics workshop prior to this workshop.
Participants will learn how to effectively streamline and analyze data using some of the more advanced features of Excel including:
• Advanced Functions such as INDEX, MATCH, and SUMIFS
• Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts
• Interactive Dashboards
Agenda (not necessarily taught in this order)
• Review of Filtering, Sorting, and Conditional Formatting
• Review of Intermediate Functions (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, COUNTIF)
• Relative and Absolute Cell References within Formulas
• Date and Time Functions
• Logical Functions (IF/NESTED IF statements)
• Data Validation (notably drop-down lists)
• Advanced Functions (INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, COUNTIES)
• Charts and Graphs
• PivotTables and PivotCharts (including Slicers)
• Tables and Named Ranges
• Creating Interactive Dashboards
This is an intermediate/advanced class. Please make sure you have attended GA's Excel at Excel: Getting Down the Basics Class or have a strong familiarity with intermediate Excel functions (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, and COUNTIF)

David is a proven analytics leader within the Media/Entertainment space. Currently at Fandango, he supports various departments by providing analytical solutions and actionable insights that drive business decision making. His previous roles include working as an analyst for Warner Bros. Entertainment Group and a leading digital marketing agency, where he enabled digital marketing teams to improve their CRM and email marketing programs through data-driven segmentation and customer focused analyses. His specialties include manipulating and extracting data for analysis via SQL, visualizing data using Tableau, and statistical analysis in R. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of California, Riverside and an MBA with a focus in Decision Sciences & Marketing from the Graziadio School of Business & Management at Pepperdine University.
