About this class series

The Excel Class Series is a three-part class designed for students who have little to no familiarity with Excel. You'll go from beginner to advanced skill level in this crash course.

Agenda:

Monday, 6/18 – Getting Down the Basics: Introduction to a range of Excel topics giving students a taste of the potential that can be achieved with Excel. It touches briefly on everything from navigation and layout to using very basic arithmetic functions and charts. This workshop was not designed to go over any topic in extreme detail, but more as a "sampler" of topics. The expectation is for students to be able to leave and be familiar with several of the Excel skills necessary for most positions that require some "basic " Excel knowledge.

Monday, 6/25 – Intermediate: An intermediate class designed for students who are relatively familiar with other office productivity software, for example Microsoft Word. It introduces a range of Excel topics giving students a taste of the potential that can be achieved with Excel. The expectation is for students to be able to leave and be familiar with several of the Excel skills necessary for most positions that require some "basic to intermediate" Excel knowledge.

Monday, 7/2 – Advanced: In this final class of the series, we will move beyond the basics of spreadsheet creation and manipulation. This fast-paced course covers a fair amount of material and will be most beneficial to those who already have intermediate understanding and use of Excel. The expectation is for students to be able to leave and begin immediately using the new skills and concepts learned in their professional roles.

Topics will include data “cleaning”/troubleshooting and showing attendees how to use some of the more advanced features of Excel to assimilate, analyze and summarize data having multiple attributes. We will also develop Pivot Tables, advanced graphs, and create basic macros. Ideally, students will learn how to effectively manipulate and streamline data to ultimately use in conveying “data stories” upon which business decisions will be based—students will learn to present data in a way that allows leadership a clear understanding of their organization to begin having the right conversations. Class exercises will be utilized to facilitate understanding.

Takeaways

In this class series, you'll learn end-to-end use of Excel: - Input, gather, massage, and format data for more productive use and sharing. - Analyze data to improve decision making. - Output and package data for external consumption. - Effectively streamline and analyze data using some of the more advanced features of Excel.
