About this class

In the age of social media, people’s face-to-face social skills have atrophied. How do you start a conversation with a complete stranger? Everyone says you should network, but how exactly do you go about doing that?

Executive Coach Hamilton Chan, who has met and connected with luminaries as varied as Mark Zuckerberg, Marissa Mayer and President Obama, will share his secrets on connecting with other people. Whether it’s the cashier in the cafeteria line, the grumpy customer service rep at the car rental counter, or an admired leader in your field, learn how to create authentic connections with people you are meeting for the first time, and learn the ABC’s of following up, meeting a second time, and carrying the relationship forward.

In this class, students will learn how to begin conversations in a professional context, how to craft follow-up emails, and get over the discomfort and awkwardness of meeting people they don’t know. Expect plenty of classroom interaction and expect to grow more and more comfortable with meeting new people and expressing yourself confidently.

Prereqs & Preparation

Students will learn how to become more confident in broaching conversations with strangers in a professional context so that they can have more tools for increasing their professional and social networks.
