Registered participants will be notified 24 hours in advance of this program with information on how to log in to the Zoom Meeting Room and other tools you’ll need for the session. Explore one of the most promising and in-demand career paths for skilled professionals.

Basic business intelligence was once the gold standard in generating insights to drive important business decisions. In the information age, the amount of data available to businesses is nearly surpassing our ability to store, access, and analyze the results in an efficient manner.

Data science is emerging as a discipline to help take business intelligence to the next level by making it easier to harness large amounts of data, make accurate predictions, and create data-driven recommendations. Also, Data science continues to evolve as one of the most promising and in-demand career paths for skilled professionals.

The goal of this bootcamp is to give you a taste of data science. We will define what data science is and introduce the data scientist's toolset through examples and case studies. By the end of this session, you will be able to phrase problems in data science terms, approach the solution in a structured and rigorous manner, and understand how data visualization can help convey uncovered insights.

General Assembly’s classes, workshops and events are recreational and for avocational purposes only. No certificate is awarded.

About the Instructor

Matt Brems Photo

Instructor, Washington, D.C. Taught at 10 GA campuses

Matt currently is a global instructor for GA's Data Science Immersive program across the United States. Matt is a recovering politico, having worked as a data scientist for a political consulting firm through the 2016 election. Prior to his work in politics, he earned his Master's degree in statistics from The Ohio State University and his undergraduate degree at Franklin College in Indiana. Matt is passionate about putting the revolutionary power of machine learning into the hands of as many people as possible. When he's not teaching, he's volunteering with Statistics Without Borders, thinking about how to be a better teacher, falling asleep to Netflix, and/or cuddling with his pug.

In recognition of his exemplary service in the classroom, Matt has been selected as a member of General Assembly's Distinguished Faculty program and Matt earned the ‘Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year’ award in 2019. Matt also serves as the chair of GA's Product Advisory Board for data science.
