About This Class

Data drives decisions; are you part of the conversation around data? Regardless of your industry or role, fluency in the language of data analytics will allow you to contribute to data driven decision making. This workshop will put you in the driver’s seat to understand, analyze, and interpret data so you can join the data conversation.

In this hands-on introductory workshop, you’ll learn to ask the right questions of your data, while learning basic analytic functionality in Google Sheets. Your newfound data analytic skills will be applied to real-world datasets, allowing you to create a data narrative and develop recommendations based on your findings.

Takeaways

Explain the relevance of data analysis across industries and job functions. Evaluate the quality and structure of a dataset. Use Google Sheets to perform descriptive and exploratory analysis on datasets.
Use data to tell a compelling business narrative.

Prereqs & Preparation

A laptop is required for this workshop. Access to Google Sheets. (If you do not have access, create a Google account.)

About the Instructor

Josh Yazman Photo

Josh is a GA alum and a data analyst with expertise in survey research and grassroots engagement for national and local political campaigns. He spent five years working in northern and southwest Virginia for candidates at all levels of government from Blacksburg Town Council to President of the United States. In 2013 he ran a campaign that registered over 3,000 Virginia Tech students to vote for state and local candidates and tested innovative messaging and communications tactics to persuade them to show up and make their voices heard on election day.

Today Josh is a targeting and data analyst for a survey research firm in Washington D.C., a Masters Student at Northwestern University pursuing a M.S. in Predictive Analytics, and the advocacy chair for the National Capital Area chapter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
