About this event

In this 1.5 hour interactive workshop presented by Empowered Tech you’ll practice powerful techniques to improve your ability to communicate who you are and what you do and dialogue to make a lasting positive impression. Using a combination of lecture and experiential exercises, we’ll experience the power of removing weak language, being authentic, and speaking concisely.

Structure:

We’ll begin with highly interactive warm-up activities that break the ice and increase connection and trust among the group. These activities are designed to infuse insights, tips and practices for overall effective communication. (~25 min)

We’ll launch into another highly interactive section about weak language (any word or phrase that does not add value to your message, namely um, uh) and how to remove it. (~25 min)

From there we’ll counter the removal of weak language to understanding strong language and how painting pictures and evoking emotions when we speak is the real (and only) way to be compelling and memorable. This is where we’ll practice communicating details and data in ways that are felt and seen (and more importantly remembered) instead of just heard and forgotten. (~10 min)

Making a good impression is largely in one’s ability to pause and deliver in a powerful and concise way. In this interactive section, we’ll form two lines of pairs and practice a technique called think/edit/speak. I’ll speak to the neuroscience of our speaking and listening, the power of the pause (re-enforcing the lessons in weak language) and help the participants get more comfortable, and better, with thinking and editing BEFORE speaking. (~15 min)

We’ll wrap up by forming a circle and sharing ahas and commitments popcorn style. (~15 min)
