HTML and CSS are the fundamental building blocks of the web. Whether you're a beginner who wants to get started in web development, a designer looking to hand-code their concepts, or a marketer who wants a little more control over their CMS, you'll need to know HTML and CSS to get the job done!
In this hands-on introductory workshop, we’ll learn about the web development community and how the web works. We’ll go over key coding terminology and principles, introduce languages like HTML and CSS, discuss what their functions are and how they work together, then use that new knowledge to write our own code and develop a simple site.
Students should be familiar with the basic functions of their computer, such as launching programs, creating folders, copying and pasting objects, formatting text, finding and saving files.
A laptop is required for this workshop. For those on Windows, you’ll need Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 (32- or 64-bit). For those with Macs, you’ll need the Mac OS X 10.8.5 or higher, up to 10.11.4 (El Capitan). Upgrade your operating system before class, if needed. Basic technical aptitude and orientation to computers, and curiosity to learn new tools. Download Sublime Text 3
Front End Web Developer,
Joel is a front end solutions specialist, who is passionate about applying cutting edge front end UI/UX solutions to deliver highly effective projects.
He has worked in the front end space for over 15 years experience in both public and private sectors in a wide variety of roles ranging from UI/UX design, middleware, API and database development through to infrastructure management.
Early on he worked in the infancy of E-Learning in Australia on projects for ANZ & RACV before moving to work for local government in regional Victoria. While working for local government, his split role of development and UI design peaked his interest in making both functional, and beautiful web solutions. This lead Joel to follow his second passion for design and completed a Bachelor of Arts-Graphic Design.
Leaving local government Joel worked freelance in Mildura and Bendigo creating online solutions for a range of companies, SME’s and community groups. This diversity of clientele gave Joel exposure to the ever changing web space across all facets of the web stack and the growth of front end technologies, and fuelled his passion for the ever changing front end technology.
Joel moved back to Melbourne in 2012 to work in the Wholesale travel industry for 2 years before joining CrownBet in November 2014 where he works today implementing high performance API driven web solutions.
