About this class

From independent consultancy to starting a company of your own, it’s important to be able to think like a CFO. Businesses exist to create value for customers in exchange for money, and the CFO’s job is to optimize the business’ finite resources to achieve that goal. This class will teach entrepreneurs - with or without a background in finance - how to be their own CFO, when to outsource or hire a CFO, and how to get the most from their CFO in every situation.

Takeaways

  • High-level understanding of the major functions of a CFO, including:

    • How to set up the right structure for your business.
    • Bringing the economic perspective to strategy and planning discussions.
    • Establishing and using a “management dashboard” built around key performance metrics for your business.
    • Managing relationships and communications (including financial reporting) with investors, creditors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Gain an understanding of the alternatives for managing these functions and how to decide which is right for your business.
