About this event

There has often been the supposition that biology was the “easy” science, and that the more gifted of us studied chemistry and physics as it was littered with mathematical concepts. It was then with some irony that in modern history, our knowledge of chemistry and physics was massively propelled forward, whereas our knowledge of biology and medicine is still being written. This is in part because the complexity of biology requires the substructure of chemistry and physics to build upon. Contained within this blossoming field is the future of humanity and our planet. Many traditional mathematical approaches are limited in predictive ability for highly complex interacting systems. However, by combining mathematical modelling with machine learning – some call this AI – we are starting to make incredible progress.

In this talk, we will discuss the past, present and future of AI within biotechnology – and also include how many different careers and specialities have emerged within the sector.
