About this event

The Apple Watch is here! If you are a design professional itching to begin exploring this new device, then this workshop is for you. We'll begin by spending roughly thirty minutes covering Apple Watch functionality, specifications, constraints at a high level. Then, we'll move straight into structured workshop time, where you will rapidly prototype and guerilla usability test (with fellow workshop attendees) an Apple Watch application of your own design. You can use any prototyping program you prefer, but we suggest paper prototyping during this workshop. Finally, we'll present our creations to the group PechaKucha style.

Takeaways

-A prototype of an Apple Watch application -Understand that overall functionality, specifications, and constraints of the Apple Watch -Confidence that you can integrate Apple Watch designs into the UX design process, including user research and usability testing -Be clear on how to create responsible, effective, safe designs that help rather than harm humans (bc who would want killer watches?)

Prereqs & Preparation

Read Namahn's article, Yvonne Rogers - Calm computing: a critique. For a bonus, listen to the audio version of Yvonne's interview. Review Apple's WatchKit, especially the Human Interface Guidelines. Bring your design and paper prototyping tools (laptop, notebook, pens, and pencils), idea for an Apple Watch app, and, if you have one, a smart watch (especially an Apple Watch).
