About This Workshop
Scrum is used extensively, but not exclusively, in web and software development. Everyone from developers to business execs are now expected to know how to work using Scrum, but few are taught it and many struggle along with misinformed ideas. This bootcamp will cover the main principles and ideas underpinning agile and why using Scrum is the best way to run certain projects. Through games, hands-on practice and project simulations, you’ll be armed with the knowledge of how to use Scrum on a day-to-day basis.
General Assembly’s classes, workshops & events are for recreational purposes and are not regulated by the bureau of proprietary school supervision.
If this class is recorded, students will be sent the recording link within 7 days after class completion by email. Students are encouraged to download and save any shared materials (worksheets, deck if applicable) during class for later reference as they are not be shared by email.
Takeaways
In this bootcamp, we’ll:
- review the Agile Manifesto and principles
- explore the roles in Scrum
- go through the planning process (including product backlogs, sprint backlogs, prioritisation, sizing and estimation, and velocity)
- run sprints (including the daily Scrum)
- look at the review and improvement process (including sprint reviews and retrospectives)
This bootcamp is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about agile and Scrum. Knowledge on how to use Scrum is particularly important to those involved in web development, software engineering and business development, but it isn’t limited to the tech industry.
Preparation
- You will need access to a laptop or computer with a working webcam and microphone as well as a strong internet connection.
- This class will occur completely online using Zoom.
- Class setup information will be emailed to all students signed up around 24 hours before (and again an hour before) your class launches.
- Each individual class participant must have purchased a ticket
This is a class for beginners and those with some experience of Scrum. No prior knowledge is required.

I'm a seasoned product manager launching products in both consumer & enterprise environments. I'm the Director of Product, Platform for Restoration Hardware and focus on how to make their tooling and business processes more efficient. I founded a consulting company that helped post-series A companies build product organizations. Before that I worked at One Kings Lane, on a variety of initiatives including launching Hunter's Alley - a resale marketplace for the home. I've been working to build better technology and user experiences for over 15 years. I've worked across many sectors including e-commerce, marketplaces, biotech, and ERP systems. I have a B.S. in Information and Decision Systems from Carnegie Mellon University. When I’m not dancing to “Push It” with the engineers to celebrate a feature release, you can find me relaxing by the beach.
