About This Workshop

Bring your creative ideas to life with Adobe InDesign, the professional page layout standard, used by designers and production professionals to design, preflight, and publish a broad range of documents such as brochures, catalogs, magazines and books.

This workshop is designed to get you up and running with Adobe InDesign in one day. The focus will be on step-by-step instruction leading participants through the most important tools and concepts in InDesign. By the end of the workshop, you will understand the basics of InDesign such as how to create a new file, place images, format text, use layers, and create print ready files. You will also learn the basics of typography and page layout design.

Preparation

This is an introductory workshop for first time and beginning Adobe InDesign users. No prior experience with Adobe InDesign is required for this class. However we do ask that participants come with basic technical aptitude and familiarity with computers.

What to bring to class: All participants must bring a laptop to class. You will also need to have Adobe InDesign CS4 or higher downloaded prior to class. You can download a free trial version here.

About the Instructor

Brockett Horne is a graphic designer who first learned of typography when examining billboards from the backseat of her parents station wagon along I-95 just outside of her hometown. She serves as chair of graphic design at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

Her creative work is inspired by a desire to encourage the spectator to look intensely. She holds a B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design (with double thesae in art history and graphic design), and is an active member of the AIGA, SEGD, and CAA.

She is a past Rotary International Scholar, has been exhibited and honored with multiple design awards, and has work in the permanent collection of the RISD Museum of Art. Her extensive client list as principal of eyedear studio includes: Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University, Taproot Foundation, Polaris Project, and First Night/First Works. She holds pride in her extraordinary stamina for visiting museums.
