About this workshop

As technology changes, more media and design companies are exploring 3D design, animation, and 3D printing. Having 3D skills on your resume can set you apart from other designers.

This class serves as an introduction to the core concepts and tools in 3D modeling and animation using industry standard software, Autodesk Maya. The course also provides participants with basic hands-on skills in 3D production. This course will teach students the fundamentals of 3D character development, modeling, texturing, and basic animation. Participants will learn how to create a simple character model, apply basic textures, animate, and render a 3D character in Autodesk Maya. This course is recommended for beginners and intermediate level students who seek to understand the basics of 3D design.

Prereqs & Preparation

Prior experience with Adobe Photoshop or any design software strongly preferred.

  • Microsoft® Windows® 7 (SP1) and Windows® 10 Professional operating system.
  • Apple® Mac OS® X 10.11.x, 10.12.x operating system.
  • Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 6.5 & 7.2 WS operating system ¹.
  • CentOS 6.5 & 7.2 Linux operating system ¹.
  • Nvidia Guide for Virtualization with GRID & VMWare.

Hardware

  • CPU: 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor with SSE4.2 instruction set.
  • Graphics Hardware: Refer to the following pages for a detailed list of recommended systems and graphics cards: Maya Certified Hardware.
  • RAM: 8 GB of RAM (16 GB or more recommended).
  • Disk Space: 4 GB of free disk space for install.
  • Pointing Device: Three-button mouse.
