GA Hong Kong Product Management graduate, Chris Place, already had his product in place. He just needed help taking it to the next level.
Meet JUMP, “The first charging solution that fits your lifestyle.”
Chris began working on JUMP with his team at Native Union as a product designer. He came to GA to help realize the potential of the product by realizing his potential as a product manager. We recently caught up with Chris to learn more about JUMP and how his time at GA was able to empower him to take on more responsibility within the project.
When did you get the idea for JUMP and what inspired you to create it?
The idea for JUMP came from a frustration. My phone battery kept running out in situations where I needed to finalize a plan to meet a friend or make an important call.
However there were not any products on the market that really suited my needs. Judging by the response we have had online, I think a lot of people share this opinion.
This really set me off thinking about how a device could fit into my daily routine. The idea for JUMP came to me whilst on a flight. I sketched it out and presented it to the team that Monday morning.
What did you learn in your Product Management course and how did it help you with JUMP?
I am an Industrial Designer by training and the product was already in the early design stages at the time I enrolled in the course.
At the time the course began, we had just decided to launch on Kickstarter. I decided to join the class as I had the design skills but lacked the framework needed to tackle such a big project. Product Management gave me the practical skills to drive this project from understanding user needs to measuring the market and finally to pitching and presenting the project; something that has been incredibly useful in creating the Kickstarter campaign.
Overall, the PM course was great at giving me a bigger picture of the business of design.
